Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on Algeria in one of the friendly matches set to take place in Austria later this month.
In preparation for the highly-anticipated encounter, coach Gernot Rohr unveiled a 25-man squad list which includes Napoli youngster Victor Osimhen.
Unfortunately, the former Lille star won’t be part of the upcoming fixtures as he is required to be quarantined for 14 days following after coming in contact with Genoa players who tested positive to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The latest development has left Rohr with no option but to extend a late call-up to Genk red-hot striker Paul Onuachu.
The lanky striker won’t stop scoring having found the back of the net seven times in seven games and he would see this as a reward for is blistering form in front of goal.
In all fairness, Onuachu, 26, hasn’t been too impressive with the Nigerian national team since his debut against Egypt last year.
He has scored just a goal in seven games, while his overall display have left so much to be desired.
Hopefully, the striker will seize this opportunity against Algeria to impress the national team handlers and gain a spot in subsequent team lists.
It should be recalled that Onuachu was included in our list of Three players who deserved an invitation to camp were overlooked by the German tactician.
He will now link up with the rest of the team as they prepare for crunch tie against Djamel Belmadi’s side who pipped them 1-0 in last year’s AFCON semi-final clash.
