Best Five Nigerian Players This Season: Two of Five

The 2019-2020 football season witnessed lots of ups and downs. The corona virus pandemic successfully prevented every League from completing the season according to plan.

Many European Leagues – including Ligue 1, Scottish League, Eredivisie and Jupiter League – were ended abruptly while others – like Serie A, English Premier League and La Liga – were forced to play at least nine matches behind closed doors in order to curtail the spread of the virus.

Despite the unwanted situation, some players still manage to lived up to their billings during the campaign.

Having discussed Victor Osimhen earlier on, we continue with our list of five Nigerians whose performances helped their respective clubs recorded a fruitful 2019-20 football season.

Wilfred Ndidi

The former Genk midfielder wrapped up a wonderful season with another blistering display against Manchester United in the last match of the campaign last weekend.

Though the Foxes couldn’t make a top-four finish, their number 25 star will be satisfied with his personal performances throughout the season.

According to Goal, Ndidi was the league’s joint top tackler with Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka who had 129 tackles.

He made 80 interceptions to maintain his status as one of the best no-nonsense defensive midfielders in the world.

His importance to Brendan Rodgers side was largely seen when the team failed to win any of the six matches played during his absence due to injury.

Though he currently has a long-term contract with the foxes that will expire in 2024, the 23-year-old is being linked with a move to PSG, Real Madrid and Arsenal.

It will be unfair not to let you know that Ndidi managed to find the back of the net on two occasions as he continues to improve the attacking part of his game.
