The 2019-2020 football season witnessed lots of ups and downs. The corona virus pandemic successfully prevented every League from completing the season according to plan.

Many European Leagues – including Ligue 1, Scottish League, Eredivisie and Jupiter League – were ended abruptly while others – like Serie A, English Premier League and La Liga – were forced to play at least nine matches behind closed doors in order to curtail the spread of the virus.

Despite the unwanted situation, some players still manage to lived up to their billings during the campaign.

In our post today, we take a look at five Nigerians whose performances helped their respective clubs recorded a fruitful 2019-20 football season.

Victor Osimhen

Osimhen is no doubt the country’s best performer at the just concluded season.

The 21-year-old star joined Lille prior to the start of the season and he wasted no time before he hits the ground running.

The former Wolfsburg striker made his debut for the Ligue 1 side against Nantes and he was able to find the back of the net on two occasions.

He didn’t stopped there as he added another 16 goals to end the campaign with 18 goals in all competitions.

The youngster isn’t only about goals, he is equally known for his selflessness on the field of play. He provided six assists all through the season.

Unsurprisingly, his overall performance for Lille attracted interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

However, he finally put an end to the uncertainty surrounding his future has he officially signed a five-year contract with Napoli on Friday.

Victor Osimhen Record

Victor Osimhen created a very impressive record with Lille despite his short term spell with the club.

He became Lille’s first player in over 50 years to score six goals in his first seven matches for the club.

He achieved this feat following his lovely goal against Strasbourg in a game that ended 2-1 in their favor.
