Manchester City youngster Tosin Adarabioyo is expected to return to the Etihad Stadium after a very successful loan spell with Blackurn Rovers.
The 22-year-old defender was a regular starter in the Black and White team throughout the recently concluded season as he appeared in 34 Sky Bet Championship matches.
The Nigeria-eligible star found the back of the net on three occasions and Blackburn Rovers are looking at the prospect of signing him on a permanent deal in the coming summer transfer window.
In the mean time, the player has returned to Pep Guardiola’s side in preparation for the 2020-21 campaign.
He now faces huge task of breaking into city’s first-team squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Will the youngster achieve his dream of becoming the club captain?
While speaking in an interview with The Guardian last year, the 22-year-old revealed his dream of becoming the club captain.
It’s good to dream but it’s quite unfortunate that not all dream turn out to become a reality as there could be better options in the future.
As for Adarabioyo, it’s not impossible to become City’s captain, but that is definitely going to be a very difficult task to achieve.
This is as a result of top and well-known players ahead of him in the pecking order of defenders.
Jone Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Danilo, Nicolás Otamendi, João
Cancelo, and Benjamin Mendy are all competing for a spot in Guardiola’s defensive setup.
Hence, the chances of breaking into the team looks very slim.
Another loan move is very much likely, but this time, it would be advisable to join a Premier League club where he can improve his potentials.
A switch to a middle-table team like Everton, Wolves or Sheffield Wednesday will immensely aid his development as he would face some of the world’s deadliest strikers.
Staying under Guardiola in the coming season won’t be a better option unless the gaffer promise him quality playing time.
Though a loan move to fellow Premier League side might prolong his hope of becoming City’s regular player, it will definitely help him become a better and reliable modern-day defender.
What do you think? Should he consider being with Manchester City In the coming season?
