What Next For Former Chelsea Star After Dumping His Club

It is no longer news that former Chelsea and Super Eagles star Mikel Obi is currently without a club having parted ways with Turkish super league side Trabzonspor in April as a result of his desire to boycott league match due to his fear for the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

According to Sky Sports, the 33-year-old star ended his contract with his Turkish side as his call for the suspension of the league didn’t go down well with Trabzonspor’s hierarchies who were too obsessed with the league g glory.

Though the league was eventually suspended by the Turkish football federation, the former Super Eagles captain had already reached an agreement with his employers to terminate his contract as he wasn’t ready to feature for the team in the midst of the pandemic that has claimed millions of lives.

The 33-year-old now has a very difficult decision to make regarding his future as he is currently in search of a new suitor.

A return to the EFL Championship is not out of bound as he wants to remain close to his family in London.

It should be recalled that he was on loan to Middleborough last season and he was hugely loved by the fans for his lively performances.

It won’t be out of proportion to suggest that the Boro might rekindle their interest in the defensive midfielder.

Meanwhile, Brazilian side Botafogo are also monitoring the player’s current situation with a hope of luring him to the Brazil’s Serie A league.

It was equally revealed that an unnamed Mexican side are set to make a surprise bid for the former Super Eagles player who helped his country win her third AFCON trophy in 2013.

As it the stands, the player is currently with his family in England as he is observing the stay-at-home directory.

We keep our fingers crossed and continue to monitor how events unfold.
